Eyebrows are pretty much the frames of the face. It matters a lot how you shape and colour them. If the frames are off, so is the rest of the presentation, right? I’ll tell you an example: the 10 year challenge that is now very viral in the social media is rather painful to watch. At least from the point of view of the PERFECT EYEBROWS. I admit, I’m one of those who plucked their eyebrows too much as teenager. Thankfully I was able to grow them back!
Even though the plucking problem is pretty much solved, I still think there a lot to learn about shaping and colouring one’s eyebrows. We all have different amount of hair growing there, the shades of colours varies a lot and some don’t have any colour at all in the brows.
So what did I learn?
1.First you need to shape your brows according to your eyes. Here’s a demonstration of that:
In case you don’t have hair growing in the places shown here, that’s where you can add some by drawing (need some steady hands though!). It’s important not to cross over the lines, otherwise we’ll have a “situation unibrow” or a permanent sad expression. Also the place of the arc is crucial, it affects on your overall look. You don’t want to look surprised all the time, right? By the way Pinterest is a great place to discover different kind of styles on eyebrows, in case you’re looking for some inspiration.
2. Use a colour closest to your natural brow colour. If you’re brows are colourless, use your natural hair colour. These colours are likely to suit you the best.
3. Add some colour to the brow starting by creating a soft line in the roots of your brow. This also gives a nice lift to your face and its expression. You can soften the line with a brow brush.
4. Then add vertical “stripes” to simulate natural looking hair in the beginning of the brow.
5. Thicken your brow’s tail by adding some colour to it. It is important to try to simulate your natural hair and follow the direction of your brow’s hair.
+ In the end you could add some highlighter under your brows’ arcs to light up your look a bit more.
On Sunday with Minna we used a brow palette and a brow brush made by Miia Ollula with Ibero Finland. I also like to use a brow pencil and a brow gel. I can highly recommend all of these products. In my opinion the main thing is to find the right colour and avoid too much plucking to get the perfect eyebrows!
How do you shape and colour your eyebrows? Or do you get them done by a professional?
